Composition:

Properties:
Talopram (Citalopram) is an oral selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) with a chemical structure unrelated to that of other SSRIs or of tricyclic, tetracyclic, or other antidepressants. It is highly selective in inhibiting serotonin reuptake (SSRI) with minimal effects on norepinephrine and dopamine neuronal reuptake. Citalopram has no or very low affinity for 5-HT 1A, 5-HT 2A, dopamine D 1 and D 2, alpha 1, alpha 2, and beta-adrenergic, histamine HI, gamma amino butyric acid (GABA), muscarinic cholinergic, and benzodiazepine receptors.
Indications:
Talopram (Citalopram) is indicated for the treatment of:
- Major depressive disorder
- Anxiety disorders
Dosage Administration:
Talopram (Citalopram) should be administered at an initial dose of 20 mg once daily. It is administered once daily, in the morning or evening, with or without food.
Contra Indications:
- Concomitant use in patients taking monoamine oxidize inhibitors (MAOIs) is contraindicated. Talopram should not be used in combination with an MAOI, or within 14 days of discontinuing treatment with an MAOI. Similarly, at least 14 days should be allowed after stopping Talopram before starting an MAOI.
- Talopram is contraindicated in patients with a hypersensitivity to citalopram.
- Driving and Operating Machinery: Patients should be cautioned about operating hazardous machinery, including automobiles, until they are certain that citalopram therapy does not affect their ability to engage in such activities.

- Increased sweating
- Tremor
- Headache
- Nausea
- Dysphagia
- Fatigue
- Disturbed sleep
- Impaired concentration
- Apathy
- Decreased appetite
- Agitation
- Delayed ejaculation
- Upper respiratory tract infection
- Polyuria
- Flushing
