Oxitropil 1200 mg F.C. Tablets - Piracetam

COMPOSITION

Each film coated tablet contains: 1200 mg piracetam.

PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTION

Oxitropil contains piracetam which acts selectively on the central nervous system by different mechanisms. 

Piracetam improves the function of the neurotransmitter which is implicated in memory & learning process.

Piracetam increases the energy out of the brain cells especially in deficit condition. 

Piracetam improves cerebral blood flow and microcirculation on account of its hemorheological properties without causing vasodilation. It has also been found to increase oxygen consumption in parts of the brain.

INDICATIONS

Oxitropil is indicated in the following:

  • Cerebrovascular Pathology related to aging: memory deficit, decrease in intellectual efficiency and concentration, adaptation disorders disturbed psychomotor reactions.
  • Cerebrovascular insufficiency.
  • Post stroke.
  • Post traumatic syndrome: cerebral dysfunction related to post traumatic sequelae (Headache, vertigo and agitation)
  • Symptomatic relief of vertigo & dizziness.
  • Vasospastic disorders as Raynaud's phenomenon.
  • Chronic alcoholism and addiction.

Pediatric therapy: ease of resuming individual contacts, sociability and learning, improve intellectual

performance.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Adult: Initial dose, 2 tablets daily & dose may be increased up to 20 gm daily on divided doses according to the severity of the case. and the response of the case.

CONTRAINDICATIONS

  • Hypersensitivity to any component of the tablet.
  • Cerebral hemorrhage and any severe bleeding problems.
  • Hepatic and severe renal impairments.

SIDE EFFECTS

Piracetam has been found to have few mild and transient side effects such as diarrhea, weight gain, insomnia, nervousness, depression, hyperkinesia and rash.

PREGNANCY AND LACTATION

Not recommended.

PRECAUTIONS

Dose adjustment with moderate renal impairment.

SUCROSE WARNING

Extra oral dose may cause intra intestinal disturbances.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PATIENTS

Avoid abrupt withdrawal.
